I was listening to Vivaldi, Violin Concerto in A Minor RV356, when I remembered something I used to do when I was young. In my tweens, before learning how to download music, I’d sit for hours before the radio. Listening to classical music by Bach, Mendelson, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, et al, if a piece I liked began to play, I’d immediately press the record button. It would all be recorded onto a tape. Later in the day or week, while writing my continuation of Pride and Prejudice, I’d play this tape and write a story inspired by the music.
As I illustrated here, music is what mainly inspires my writing. What inspires you guys? Or, what do you do when you have writer’s block? Because I feel stuck in one right now. Just a bit.

Ah, music! I can’t listen to it while I’m writing. Especially music with words and singing. I have one Beethoven composition on my I-pod. It’s only about one minute or so but it’s peaceful either way.
When I have Writer’s Block, I can’t seem to get out of it. I close myself up in my room and wait it out. I might just try listening to classical music, to get into that Regency mood.
You wrote a continuation of Pride and Prejudice? Did you ever finish it? I’ve always kinda wondered how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth would be after kids and other dramas that come with marriage.

I can write with music, words or no, mainly because I tend to zone out while I do, so I don’t get distracted. But the music has to match the mood of what I’m writing–that’s why I’m very picky as to what I play while I write.
I did write a continuation of pride and prejudice. It’s all written on paper. And I’ve tried and failed several times to read it over. It’s ridiculously cheesy haha. And it was written during the days when I read little (P&P was one of the first few books that got me into reading), so it’s difficult to read…But I remember it was great fun writing it

When I get writer’s block I either read a book in the genre I’m writing or I make up a completely random, ridiculous scene and put myself in it and write it as how I would react. I have absurd reactions to things, so by the time I’m done, I’m ready to get back to work 🙂

I actually have a side project. Periodically I have to take a break from my main project and write a chapter or two of the other project, just to clear my head and keep from getting stuck. Or if I need to think something over, I get up and pace my room, because I think better when I’m moving.
As for music, I prefer to listen to it while I’m writing because it helps me to concentrate better. I can listen to pretty much anything while writing except country. But if there’s a certain mood I’m trying to get into for a scene, I have certain plalists of songs I’ll play.

I have certain music I call brain pudding. It’s pretty sounds, without words, kind of new age. Perhaps because I have ADD, playing brain pudding while I write helps me focus. I’m also a musician, and so I tend to listen closely to other kinds of music and listen to the words if there’s singing … or how the words sound with the music if I can’t speak the language, so I can’t use anything like that as background for writing; it’s too intrusive. But isn’t this Vivaldi piecelovely?

It is very lovely! I’m not quite sure how “brain pudding” music sounds like haha. I don’t believe I’ve listened to any new age so…well, maybe I have, but didn’t know it was new age.
